This is a new NICE guideline on using Betula verrucosa for allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis which was published in Aug 2025 to quite a bit of publicity.

I have also looked at the BNF for the following information.

When can Betula verrucosa be used?

Betula verrucosa can be used for:

  • Adults (aged 18 to 65) who have moderate to severe allergic rhinitis or conjunctivitis caused by pollen from the ‘birch homologous group of trees’ who
    • Have ‘symptoms despite using symptom-relieving medication’ AND
    • Have a positive skin prick test OR serum IgE to a member of the birch homologous group of trees.
