Five reasons why LocumDeck is not a GP agency: platform explainer

GP agencies have ruled for too long, taking control from GPs and adding layers of waste. LocumDeck is not one of them. It’s something better – built for doctors, by doctors.

NASGP’s platform, LocumDeck, isn’t a GP agency. We don’t speak for GPs, or control members. We give GPs the tools, freedom, and respect they deserve.

Here’s why it’s different.

1 There are no middlemen

With agencies, there’s always someone in the middle – passing messages, taking a cut, adding confusion. LocumDeck removes that mess. GPs speak directly to the practice, send a GP’s terms, and get booked – clean, quick, and on a GP’s own terms.

GPs don’t need a handler. GPs don’t need someone ‘managing’ a GP’s work. GPs know what’s best for them, and LocumDeck gives GPs the tools to do just that.

2 GPs keep the power

Agencies often take control of a GP’s calendar. They book shifts without warning, expect GPs to agree to everything, and pressure GPs to fill their gaps. That’s not freedom – it’s stressful. In this industry, GPs are struggling to cope as-is – so adding an extra layer of challenges can stop GPs finding the very work they’re ready for.

LocumDeck puts GPs in charge. GPs choose where to work, when to work, and how much to charge. GPs decide the rules, and no one edits a GP’s terms behind a GP’s back.

This power means GPs stay balanced. GPs work when it suits them. In this way, GPs avoid burnout – giving them back their career.

3 No hidden costs or charges

Some agencies charge both practices and locums and call it something, like “admin” or “processing.” Over time, costs add up quickly.

With LocumDeck, GPs and practices both know exactly what’s going on. There are no additional charges, no surprise fees, and no clever tricks. What GPs charge is what GPs get paid. No one dips into their earnings – which is just as it should be.

4 GPs are treated like human beings

We often receive complaints from members about the way they’ve been treated by some agencies, sometimes made to feel like a commodity.. They don’t necessarily care about how the GP wants or needs to work. Highly-trained professionals can become plug-and-play pawns in a profit-making industry – which is not what any doctor trained for.

LocumDeck helps GPs build real links with practices. On LocumDeck, practice see a GP’s profile, a GP’s terms, a GP’s preferences. Over time, they get to know the GP. The doctor is not just a body in a room, but part of a trusted team.

That makes work smoother, kinder, and more rewarding.

You’re a valued professional again – just what you trained to be.

5 It was built by GPs who get it

Some agencies are run by people who’ve never been in clinic. They may be perfectly nice, supportive people; they may even be clinicians, but they don’t understand GP work like their clients do.

And not every agency is supportive. Some care about bookings, rather than the human being doing the job. That’s why their systems and approaches can sometimes feel clunky and cold.

LocumDeck was created by GPs and to this day is still led by a couple of GPs. We’ve done late nights and hours of ten-minute appointments, the endless paperwork and wrangling pensions admin. Unlike agencies, we know what works for GP locums and their employing practices, and what just gets in the way. So we built something better – for practices and for GPs.

"I started my career as a GP locum last year a week after CCT. I strongly agree with the doctors who praise the NASGP team. If there is no NASGP, there would be no GP locum called Dr Darshanie Seneviratne.

The team is absolutely amazing especially Dr Richard Fieldhouse, Ali Lewis and Jacqui Gumbrell – all providing unbelievable support to us. I've never seen such urgent assistance from any other team at any point in my career. For example when one of my invoices was delayed by a month and a half, Ali was incredibly supportive. It is a very good strength for us as we have support with any issues. I would like to stay with this amazing team forever. "
