A GP provider, eHarley Street, has handed back a contract for Brynmawr Medical Practice, one of its nine GP practices in Wales, Pulse reports.
More than 40 GPs were affected by issues related to the company, with two alleging that they were owed ‘in excess of £300,000’.
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has said that the company is handing back the contract for one practice, and that eHarley Street ‘remains under enhanced monitoring’ regarding other practices at the health board.
First Minister Eluned Morgan said the issue was ‘something we should be deeply concerned about’ in January 2025.
Dr Richard Fieldhouse, NASGP chair, said: “It’s good to see that some progress has been made, and its first priority must be to ensure that they make good on paying any existing invoices to those GP locums if they are still out of pocket.
“Any business or organisation that does not pay its staff properly and on time risks the service it provides being curtailed through lack of a willing workforce, in this case could have had disastrous effects on patient care.
“If any GPs are in a situation where a practice is not responding to a request for late payment , our advice is to notify your local LMC immediately who will also be happy to intervene on your behalf. Make sure that all bookings, no matter where you work, are complimented by a robust set of terms and conditions as well as an electronic audit trail, as provided by dedicated GP locum platforms like LocumDeck.”
