When newly-qualified as a GP and looking for the surgery to locum in, it can be both exciting and daunting. You are now a ‘free’ agent to choose any surgery of your choice. No longer are you subject to a rota co-ordinator choosing your location and shifts. Having this freedom and the World as your feet brings with it many options and many questions. Being a locum gives you that luxury of choosing where you want to be with no strings attached.
You may do your research by talking to other GPs, talking to non-GP friends, or checking local surgery patient satisfaction scores (!). You may already have some places in mind i.e., the surgery where you trained (common and in fact what I did).
I have worked in many different surgeries and along the way, cultivated my own pros and cons for different surgeries, which I will share with you.
