UK GPs organise for Ukraine

Doctors across the UK and the island of Ireland have spoken out and organised funding in solidarity with Ukraine.

Tetyana Petrenko, a GP who lives in Knutsford and works at Weaverham Surgery, told a local paper: “As a doctor, I am worried about them getting infections. They have no heating. I don’t know how they are managing for food.” She plans to raise funds through a sponsored walk on 26 March.

Meanwhile GPs at Probus Surgery in Cornwall organised a donation drive for medicine, blankets and bandages with the support of their patients. They plan to deliver contributions to the Ukrainian embassy on Friday 4 March.

And a group of doctors in Dublin, including one GP, raised €200,000 through a GoFundMe campaign for a donation drive due to arrive on Friday 4 March.

Dr Kateryna Kachurets, a GP in south Dublin, told a local paper: “We are a group of seven Ukrainian doctors living in Ireland, I am here five and a half years working as a GP in south Dublin.

“We all have family in Ukraine, my mum is in Kyiv and we have set up the campaign because there is a huge need for surgical supplies such as bandages, medicine, surgical tools, and ambulances. ”

“There is a very serious lack of basic medical supplies in Ukraine and we are, therefore, hoping to gather emergency supplies to send to Ukraine. We are in contact with several Ukrainian hospitals in the active war zone who really need emergency medical supplies.”

"NASGP membership is an excellent tool for increasing bookings with local practices. The calendar and availability function on the platform are extremely useful and easy to use. The support staff are excellent troubleshooting any queries. Overall the platform gives me a real sense of control over bookings and I feel this is an invaluable tool for clinicians wishing to provide availability to clinics in the area."
