Salaried GPs are due a 4% payrise, backdated to April 2025, experts at the British Medical Association have said.
The BMA has also supplied a letter template for GPs who have not yet received the update that GPs can share with employers, including practices.
However, GPs not employed on a version of the BMA’s model contract may find that the payrise is not included under their terms of employment.
Last November the Government had told the Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB) that salaried GPs will not receive more than a 2.5% pay rise next year, making the 2025 payrise even more important to GPs.
Dr Richard Fieldhouse, NASGP chair, said: “It is vital that all salaried GPs feel empowered to approach their employers regarding this 4% backdated pay rise, regardless of whether they are employed under the BMA model contract or not.
“In a climate where workforce opportunities are scarce, ensuring fair remuneration is absolutely essential for the retention of our skilled colleagues. We simply cannot afford to undervalue the workforce we have.
“While these conversations can feel difficult given the financial pressures on practices, this uplift is a necessary recognition of your professional value. I strongly encourage members to utilise the template letters made available by the BMA to facilitate these discussions and secure the support you deserve.”
