GPs urged to respond on pensions taxation

GPs should protect their pensions by responding to a new government consultation on taxation, the BMA’s National Clinician Adviser on Pay & Pensions and deputy chair for pensions advised.

Dr Tony Goldstone asked colleagues to ‘take a few minutes to respond to the Department of Health and Social Care’s consultation launched in December 2022.

“They are trying to steal your pension, whilst pretending they are fixing a problem,” he warned last month.

GPs can read and respond online now.

Dr Goldstone presented a 20-minute video on the problem of ‘CPI disconnect’ last month to explain the issues the consultation touches on.

Dr Richard Fieldhouse, NASGP chair, said: “We’ve all experienced the challenge when someone we’re trying to help is pulling the wool over our eyes.“Dr Tony Goldstone has done all the groundwork to decipher their intentions, so spending a few minutes to add your weight to this vital consultation will go a long way to making sure your hard work now will be worth far more when you retire.”
