Finerenone for CKD in type 2 diabetes (Nice, March 2023)

This is a new guideline from Nice advising that we can use finerenone for selected patients with CKD and type 2 diabetes.

What is finerenone?

It is a non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist. According to the BNF it “inhibits receptor-mediated sodium reabsorption and decreases receptor overactivation, thereby reducing the inflammation and fibrosis that lead to kidney damage”.
