New NHS pension ‘date worked’ feature on NASGP locum platform

The NASGP will launch new NHS pension features on its locum platform, LocumDeck, on Tuesday 13 May.

The leading item is a new ‘date worked’ feature that summarises pension information based on the dates locum work was performed, which aligns that information with NHS pension calculation methods of pensionable pay, and in turn determines which tiered employee contribution rate the member should pay.

Locums often face challenges around the NHS pensions including understanding their employee contribution rate tier during the year, reconciling contributions at year-end (including annualisation complexities) and deciphering PCSE queries.

The ‘date worked’ feature is accompanied by new ‘headline summary’ cards. At the top of the “Date Worked Summary” page, locums can see at-a-glance summaries for the current pension year, including:

  • Pensionable pay (90% of locum fees).
  • Employer’s contribution.
  • Employee contribution, with a new alert if Form B hasn’t been generated that is based on their LocumDeck settings.
  • Pensionable days service (a crucial figure for annualisation).

LocumDeck also includes informative tooltips, detailed breakdowns of work by date and practice (based on Form A information) and pension summaries by month.

"I fell into a salaried role post-CCT, so faced with an unexpected relocation to a completely new area of the country the thought of GP locuming was incredibly daunting.

The assistance I have received from NASGP has been invaluable. I have received excellent and patient admin support when setting up my LocumDeck account. I have enjoyed the monthly chambers meetings I have attended: this made locuming feel far less isolating.

I have easily found plentiful work and am grateful for the invoicing and pension forms being taken care of – this gives me time to focus on the clinical work or make the most of precious days off.

With the support of NASGP Locum Chambers I have filled my diary working in a variety of practices in my new area, and have now joined one practice I enjoyed locuming at on a salaried basis while I continue to do some locum work on top using LocumDeck."
