Nobody’s ever called a ‘blind old fart’

More than 10 million people in Britain have hearing loss. Given the aging population and the popularity of loud music and MP3 players, it’s estimated that in 20 years this figure will be 15 million.

Most of us will live long enough to know from personal experience what deafness is like: 70% of over 70s have significant hearing loss. We will enter a world of frustration. If you have lived in a country where you struggled to understand the language spoken all around you, you already know what it’s like.
