Most locums we come across now use LocumDeck or similar software to manage their appointments, invoicing and pension forms, but this alone isn’t sufficient (yet?) for the requirements of ‘Making tax digital’ for self-assessment (MTD).
This new legislation has been delayed a year and is not due to come in now until April 2024, which might feel a long way off, but it is important to set up good habits now, so that when it is formally brought in, it will be a simple transition and reduce the risk of penalties.
HMRC will expect GP locums to keep contemporaneous digital records of income and expenses – so collating it at the end of the year when your accountant is nagging you or the threat of a late tax return penalty is looming will no longer be acceptable.
