BASHH | Bacterial vaginosis

20th June 2012 by Louise Hudman

This guideline doesn’t really add anything new. It is very similar to the recent FSRH summary on Vaginal Discharge.

Oral Metronidazole is still the treatment of choice because it is cheap.

The main difference from the recent FSRH guidance is in BV in pregnancy. FSRH advised treating in pregnancy, even if BV is found as an incidental finding (ie the patient is asymptomatic). BASSH only advice treating if the lady is symptomatic, or if the patient is under 20/40 and has other risk factors for pre-term delivery.

"I started using LocumDeck as one of our locums used it. It was easy to see her availability and when bookings are made I get confirmation of the booking and can view them on the calendar too. When invoices are sent, I can see it on the site, and digitally sign the pension form (this is one of the best bits!). I can access it from home or my mobile which is useful as when I am not in surgery is when I usually need a locum."
