This is a new guideline from NICE on pancreatic cancer. Most of this is aimed at specialists, but there was a useful bit on when to consider surveillance in people who are at higher risk. Hopefully most of these patients will be under specialists anyway. This may therefore be useful for us. I haven’t gone into detail about the different mutations and conditions as I don’t think that is so relevant for us.
Offer surveillance for pancreatic cancer to anyone with:
- Hereditary pancreatitis and a PRSS1 mutation.
- BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations (and a few more) and one or more first-degree relatives with pancreatic cancer.
- Peutz-Jeghers syndrome.
Consider surveillance for pancreatic cancer to anyone with:
- 2 or more first-degree relatives with pancreatic cancer, across 2 or more generations.
- Lynch syndrome and any first-degree relative with pancreatic cancer.
