Londonwide LMCs will host the GPC England roadshow in June, the first date announced since GPs voted overwhelmingly against the GP contract imposition.
‘The event will be considering next steps on the imposition of the GP Contract, following on from the recent Referendum of BMA members,’ organisers wrote. The BMA has already floated industrial action (the closest GPs can get to a strike) for late November or early December this year.
Over 99% of participants rejected the contract.
At the free 13 June afternoon event at the Friends House in Euston, GPC England Chair Dr Katie Bramall-Stainer and GPC England Deputy Chair Dr Julius Parker will both deliver keynote speeches. Londonwide LMCs CEO Dr Michelle Drage will chair, and deputy CEO Dr Lisa Harrod-Rothwell will present a session on safe working in general in the face of the current pressures on practices: pushing back on non-contractual work, taking care of yourself and colleagues, and engaging patients so they understand the pressures on general practice and can push politicians to resolve them.
The roadshow will attend 10 England regions, with details in full due to be announced at the 2024 UK LMCs conference at the end of May.
Dr Richard Fieldhouse, NASGP chair, wrote: “With industrial action towards the end of the year becoming increasingly likely, every GP is going to be affected one way or another, whether that’s disruption to work and income, calls for urgent cover and long, potentially unpleasant conversations with relatives, friends, colleagues and patients.
“If you can’t make one of these roadshows, there will no doubt be colleagues who will be going, so liaising with your local LMC would be a good way to pose any questions and hear feedback from.”
