Welsh GP locums free to keep using LocumDeck after NASGP campaign against ‘banks’

A spokesman for the Welsh health department confirmed that “a locum can choose to book sessions … through other arrangements”.

NASGP raised concerns that Welsh GP locums were being corralled into a bank, known as Locum Hub Wales.

But the spokesperson confirmed that locums and practices could continue to use LocumDeck or other arrangements, as long as work was logged in Locum Hub Wales.

NASGP chair Dr Richard Fieldhouse said: “I’m glad that Welsh Government have engaged with us. I would have preferred that they would have approached this project from the point of view of the needs of their GP locums as well as practices, rather than creating so much anxiety by forcing locums to use LHW under threat of not being covered by GMPI.

“We have now asked if they will allow us to work with their IT development team to allow NASGP members in Wales to submit records direct from LocumDeck to LHW at the click of a mouse.”

"I’ve done respiratory nursing clinics through Frimley ICS Primary Care Staff Bank and it was such a great experience. During my clinic I realised how valued and needed my skills are. Locuming gave me a great sense of pride and enthusiasm and I felt respected for my work. It was really easy to book and get paid too. I would recommend LocumDeck for Nurses to my colleagues."
