GP locums can find out more about common pitfalls for sessional GPs in a free lunchtime event in March.
MPS experts Dr Katy Miller and Dr Heidi Mounsey will present an online talk on medicolegal risks for GP locums on Thursday 2 March from 1-2pm.
Dr Miller and Dr Mounsey have previously covered this topic for NASGP’s regional funded partnerships in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and Gloucestershire, as well as for GP locums in Greater Manchester.
The talk will cover:
- Indemnity – being indemnified and what an indemnifier can do for you.
- Confidentiality – the basics, and third-party disclosure.
- Communication – record-keeping and follow-up, ensuring that plans for patients are actioned and that tests are followed up; chaperones; reports and complaints after leaving the practice.
Dr Richard Fieldhouse, NASGP chair, said: “Heidi and Katy’s talks have gone down extremely well and so, by popular demand, it’s great to now be able to extend the invitation more widely.
“More than anything, these talks have really helped highlight the realities of working as a GP locum and the hidden pitfalls of ‘enforced underperformance’. So by raising awareness, Heidi and Katy can help colleagues reduce the risk of errors and mistakes, and help deal with these if they end up with a complaint.
“Unlike our other events, we will not be able to record this one, so it’s well worth carving out some time to come along.”
