Record-breaking April LocumDeck stats reveal pressure on GPs

LocumDeck saw its busiest ever day on 27 April with its record highest day for Instant Book sessions.

And March 2023 was the busiest month to date on LocumDeck, beating record highs already seen for January.

By 31 March 2023, GPs and practices had created the most ‘Instant Book’ appointments on record.

When GPs set up ‘Instant Book’ in LocumDeck GPs add availability to their calendar for selected practices to book, and get notified by text and email when a practice books them. Working this way, GPs can set their rates and terms from the outset, giving them greater control over when, where and how they locum, and practices gain huge efficiency savings, often booking dozens of locums at the click of a mouse.

Discover how LocumDeck’s Instant Book works.

Trends on LocumDeck reflect wider pressures on demand for GP appointments. GP practices provided over 31.5 million patient appointments in March 2023, which is almost two million more than March 2022, Pulse reported.

Dr Richard Fieldhouse, NASGP chair, wrote: “It’s fantastic to see this growth and success of LocumDeck, especially with the increased activity in March and April.

“LocumDeck’s been a real gamechanger for practice managers and GP locums, making it easier for us to connect and ensuring patients get the care they need.

“And this success is all thanks to the hard work and dedication of practice managers and amazing NASGP members, through your hard work, chambers teamwork and positive reputations that have built trust and made the platform work for everyone, and I’m grateful for the difference LocumDeck is making across general practice.

“We’ll keep working hard to make LocumDeck even better, so it continues to serve everyone involved and benefit patients across the UK.”

Our recent analysis of LocumDeck revealed a fascinating trend: GP locums utilising the Instant Book feature earned an average of 12% more for sessions booked using Instant Book than those who booked sessions through traditional means. Read more

"I would hate to have to chase practices for paying, and NASGP takes that role seriously and does an amazing job. Using a platform where that is done for me is amazing. "
