NIHR targets GP locums for COVID-19 antiviral trial

Researchers partnered with the NASGP to recruit GP locums for an NIHR trial at Oxford.

The Platform Adaptive trial of NOvel antiviRals for eArly treatMent of covid-19 In the Community (PANORAMIC) is a first-of-its-kind clinical trial to test novel antiviral COVID-19 treatments for use early on in the illness by people in the community with COVID-19 and those who are at higher risk of complications (patients aged 50+, or aged 18-49 with co-morbidities).

Researchers have partnered with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and will work with colleagues in several UK universities, and the NHS UK-wide.

Dr Richard Fieldhouse, chair of NASGP, said: “NASGP members have previously risen to the exciting challenge of supporting NIHR in some of their projects, and I’m delighted that NIHR researchers have come back to us again to help them with this vital piece of work.

“As well as being able to help with this globally important research, it’s also exciting for us to offer paid-for opportunities to help our members diversify their portfolio career with this and similar projects.”

"Prior to signing up for LocumDeck, I would have to rely on locum agencies or mutual recommendations, then do a lot of paperwork for each surgery myself. Once I signed up for LocumDeck, I just uploaded all my documents, added my availability and started getting automatic bookings. There is no need to worry about invoices any more as everything is available on LocumDeck. Ali, NASGP's Membership Support Manager, was really helpful too!"
