Revalidation should be cost-neutral

NASGP has met with the DOH. The DOH stated that "appraisal would be the means by which a doctor would fill their revalidation folder". In effect, revalidation would be a cost-neutral exercise, the resources coming from appraisal. "All you would need to do for revalidation would be to show the Revalidation panel your signed and stamped little tear off slip from the bottom of your appraisal form."

NASGP response to GMC revalidation summary

The NASGP response to the GMC consultation document, Revalidating doctors: Ensuring Standards, Securing the Future brings together all the comments I received from members. I was pleased with the nature of those comments; NPs are not terrified of the prospect of revalidation. Far from it, the overwhelming majority welcome it. However, there are inevitably some concerns about specifics - such as full inclusion in educational programmes - and these are included. I have enjoyed representing the NASGP on the GPs Consultative group and hope I have performed my duties faithfully. We have to hope that the major concern - that of funding - is tackled realistically, especially by the government, so that we end up with a Revalidation Rolls Royce (and not a Morris Minor). Read the document here.

NHS GP Locum Teams - a proposal for Virtual GP Practices

A new document outlining a proposal to develop a framework for allowing GP locums to continue providing GMS for local practices in a PCG or PCT, providing flexibility in their place and times of work and independently of one traditional practice. Very new and likely to stimulate a lot of debate. Read the document here.

BMA rates of pay from 1/4/00

The annual increase in the BMA suggested rates of pay has been delayed by an investigation by the Office of Fair Trading. Historically the increase has followed the Doctors and Dentists Pay Review Board (DDRB) recommendations which this year was 3.3%. We therefore suggest that, until this issue is resolved, for the year from 1/4/00 individual non-principals/non-principal groups adjust their fees by adding 3.3% to the old BMA rates (published here).

PACT data

A recent meeting at the DoH between the Prescription Pricing Authority, NASGP and other interested parties has raised some important issues, including the possibility of a local pilot project. Notes from the meeting are available as a Microsoft Word document pactdata.rtf.

Both are available on the RCGP's website in the Good Medical Practice and Revalidation section and feedback is encouraged so please visit this site. These documents are extremely important.
