Influenza Pandemic 2009
Specific information regarding the involvement of Freelance
Sessional GPs is available here at
http://www.rcgp.org.uk/PDF/GP_Guidance.pdf
The relevant section 4.10 Locum GPs says: 4.10.1 It is envisaged that PCOS will act as the employer for all available freelance locum GPs during a flu pandemic. This will preserve their indemnity at a time when they will be working at maximum flexibility, possibly moving frequently between practices. 4.10.2 Like all GPs, locum doctors need to be on a performers’ list relevant to the country in which they plan to work. As part of the preparation for a flu pandemic, PCOs must check their databases ensuring that they are robust and that data on them are correct, including contact details and email addresses.
4.10.3 Locums/freelance GPs must be included in any preparation and training
programmes, including information ascades, and be issued with any necessary
photo ID cards as provided to other frontline doctors.
